2010 WHA Events

All Volunteers are welcome and appreciated :)

* Please note, there is a leash law in Michigan. Please be

considerate of others and keep your dog on a leash.

*Proceeds from WHA Events go to the maintenance of the WHA campground and trails.  Waterloo Horsemen's Association is responsible for all maintenance of the trails, thank you for your support!

Memorial Day Weekend - May 28-31, 2010
The weekend starts with a Poker ride on Saturday, followed by a potluck dinner at 6:00pm. WHA provides the meat, usually chicken and pork grilled on-site. Bring a dish to pass or make a small donation and join us for dinner. Dinner is followed by an auction of donated horse tack and other 'horsey or non-horsey' items. If you have items in good condition to donate, bring them to dinner or take them to the camp host anytime during the day. The auction helps raise money for campground and trail maintenance.

You don't want to miss this event!

It is fun for the whole family!

*Poker Ride
The rules for this ride are very simple. First you sign up at the booth located at the Waterloo Horsemen's Campground, pay a $5.00 donation, receive a map of the trails with five predetermined spots highlighted, that mark where containers filled with different colored plastic straw pieces are located. Then you ride out and find all of the containers,  take a  straw from each one and return to camp. Once you are back at camp, you will turn in your  straws and from a deck of cards draw, at random, five cards. The best three hands will win cash. The amount won is determined by how many people play. The payout is as follows, 50% of the entry fees go to the club,  30% goes to the best hand and 20% goes to the second best hand drawn. The third best hand gets a Waterloo Horsemen Association gift bag and a WHA t-shirt! Good Luck to all!

**Potluck Dinner and Auction

The dinner and auction are held at the Burns Cabins located within the campground. Just follow the signs.

Elk Hill Trail Ride - TBD 2010
For 10 days in June the club rents the overflow campground near Vanderbilt. If you have never been there, you have missed some of the best riding in northern Michigan. You can camp for the entire time or just part of it. We are limited on how many people can go, so reservations are a must. The campground is appropriately named as there is a large elk herd located in the area. It isn't uncommon to see elk in and around the campground in the early morning or at dusk. Sightings of elk during the day while trail riding, are very common. If you are interested in going to Elk Hill contact Ron Beyer at 734-475-1937.

Labor Day Poker Ride - September 3-6, 2010
This is another fun filled weekend you don't want to miss! Camp fills fast, so get there early. On Saturday, we start the day with a Poker Ride*. Sign up begins at 9:00am and riders have to be back and have their hand drawn by 4:00pm.

A potluck dinner** starts at 6:00pm. The WHA provides the meat which is usually chicken breasts and boneless pork loin chops that are grilled on site by club members. A passing dish is appreciated.

*This is a fun way to spend a vacation with family and friends that share a common bond - the horse. Just a reminder, you don't have to be a member of WHA to participate in this event, everyone is welcome to join in the fun.

The Pot Luck Dinner starts a 5:00pm. Everyone is welcome and a passing dish is appreciated. Also, there will be a Poker Run on Saturday!

All proceeds from this and all events go to the maintenance of the WHA campground and trails.
